Sharon volunteers to serve hot meals to emergency personnel

On a recent trip to Manhattan I spent time serving hot meals to the workers of Ground Zero. Nino's family run restaurant shut down it's regular operations to set up a 24/7 meal service/gathering space for police officers, firemen, EMS, port authority police, red cross and construction workers. Serving 5,000 meals a day with volunteers and donations supplying the life's blood of this remarkable place. I was so happy to employ my old waitress skills to the brave and dedicated people I met there. I was even happier to share some time and smiles with them all. If you'd like to contribute send a check to Nino's Restaurant 911 Fund, 145 E. 57th Street, New York, New York 10022 or call (212) 431-5625.

NINO'S RESTAURANT 9/11 FUND

Our mission is to provide a sanctuary to nourish the bodies, spirits and souls of the heroes who serve on the front lines during these difficult times of crisis.

On September 12th, Nino's Restaurant closed its doors to the public and opened them to New York's heroes. Today Nino's continues to provide thousands of free hot meals a day, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to New York's police officers, firefighters and other relief personnel reclaiming the World Trade Center site.

To continue our mission over the coming year, Nino's Restaurant will need $7 million, which will help provide 2 million meals at $3.50 a meal.
